Most societies find a way to give back. One of the corporate days I play on donates to Help for Heroes, a number of us got over ourselves and sponsored Ron to go up some big Welsh hills whilst obliterated on ales, we’ve even seen one of our number eschew a WHV event to play in some strange Villa memorial day at the same venue.
A couple of us were witness on Saturday to the beginnings of a great campaign – you may have read on our WhatsApp group that local golfer Rob Hall hasn’t booked in for the Jug On His Doorstep because…he’s worried about running out of golf balls across 54 holes.
The estimable Pedro has been #helpingrob for many years with many golf innovations – trying to help Rob Hall play better golf. Now it sounds like we need to work together to get Rob Hall to play any golf.
He reckons he could lose three balls a hole, which sounds excessive, even for him, but a very reasonable target for us.
The Captain had a eureka moment on Saturday night, that was endorsed by the President immediately, and not totally rejected by the charity case, so we’re going to do it.
#helpingrob this year will focus on making sure Rob Hall has more than enough balls to tackle the Jug Weekend – so at least 150 #balls4hall
We are proposing that all members on or off tour can donate found balls to the #balls4hall collection that will be administered by the Skipper. You don’t have to donate the Pro V’s you find following Gregs around, or Millers special bloody 88 TaylorMade gay balls, but Rob only needs 150 Top Flites, Pinnacles and NXT types to get him to the Jug. We don’t want many joke balls (unless you’ve got exploding balls), and none of the really dirty or chopped or cut balls some of you pick up.
I reckon the TD could find 150 at thePresident’s Classic if he put his mind to it.
I will procure a suitable receptacle to store the #balls4hall, and will try and get a stamp made to confuse the errant golfers of Devon in mid October who will wonder why so many #helpingrob golf balls are in the hedgerows, car parks and back gardens.
If we collect more than 150, or if he doesn’t lose them all, we can donate the remainder to a proper charity or a school or something.
