Apologies:            I can’t spell, my grammar is awful and is Mike in Gibraltar??

For the 2nd year in row we returned to the Menzies for the Gibbon Invitation, sponsored by the Ex TD Greggors, for another well organised event. Bacon rolls, 18 holes of golf and a chicken pie to finish it all off, not bad for £40.

We welcomed to new additions to the WHV Golf Society, firstly, Darren (Pal O Millers) who was playing his first event and was introduced to the society with the normal welcome. “Jurg, can I have £100 please?” and I’m not exaggerating , 2 x entrance fees (as his brother didn’t turn up)  and a WHV Shirt (well worth the money and I’m told there are still a few left, so get in there before they all go) lucky there is no joining fee this year.  And second the Brand New Big Bog, supplied by our president after he lost the original Big Dog at the last event. (How big is that fine going to be???)

Unfortunately there where also two noticeable items missing. Noz failed to bring the Shark prize, a dirty green bottle which he won last year (maybe he had thrown it out with the rest of the trash) and for the 2nd event in a row Millers had forgotten the WHV belt. I know how could you forget to bring it twice in row? His only excuse is that he is spending so much time trying to sort out the corrupt board that it had slipt his mind.  (Another big fine on it’s way I think)

Before the actual golf got underway there was still time to fleece Darren out of more money as he was set upon by GambleGibbon. Unluckily for GG, Millers also decided to have a flutter which would prove to be a winner.

So to the golf, standing on the 1st tee our question was would we actually be able to complete the round before it got dark? A 1.04pm tee of time at the start of March would always be a bit risky but to be fair to the Ex TD we had time to spare in the end.

We set off in 3 groups, the final group being a four ball or Dougal, Paul W, Darren and myself

So who would win?

The smart money was on Rob who is now playing of a handicap of 14 (he used to play of 7) but the 24 points he picked up prove that he has his sights set on increasing his handicap so he can win the 2013 WHV open in Portugal (He just needs to get it booked now and I reckon it’s all his!!) COME ON IDIOT SORT IT OUT!! We all knew Noz has no chance as he is also managing his handicap for later in the year. What about Simon, the most consistent golfer on tour. Could he get back to winning ways after a string of 2nd and 3rd results? How about the current OOM leader Millers, was he still blind drunk after a 2am drinking session the previous night, was Darren really a 22 handicap golfer or could I defend my title from last year?

Well when I was putting for an eagle on the first I felt that this could be a good day for me and so it prove as I did managed to retain the title with 41 points 5 points better than last year. Second was Darren and third was Simon, who also won the Shark (this was at the 2nd attempt as everyone missed the green at the first shark). This was also the theme for the Big Dog, with everyone missing the fairway. However straightest drive goes to Darren who couldn’t have placed it better but according to Millers was not as straight as his which was about a meter of centre, however after 30 mins of complaining and two chicken pies later he finally agreed that his MATE had won.

Overall another fine WHV Golf Event and with a second different winning it looks like the Societies 10th year is going to be one to remember.  See you all at the SKINS.

Greggors are you really allowed to recycle prizes? I’m sure that is another fine or two.
