The Captain is pleased to confirm that this year’s truest test of golf, the matchplay, will take place in 2 and a half weeks on Saturday 21 June.
We’re returning to the site of a legendary 2013 washout at the Web Donk Download – Cleobury Mortimer – contesting the matchplay event over each of the three nines they have at ‘the west midlands premier golf venue’ (that’s what it say on their automated phone system).
There are just 12 slots available – working out the format gets way too tricky with many more than that unless we get 16 – for this premier event. You get 27 holes of matchplay golf – you can go Furyk and grind your opponent down (the Bacon ruse), or play like the rest of us and Bubba it up by attempting to drive the green, or cut off the dog leg on each hole, carry the water etc.
You also get nosebag – bacon rolls before the first nine, and then a spot of lunch before the 2nd nine. Bacon is available from 9.30 and we tee off at 10.30 – so using the Rob-O-Meter of ETA, we should get there the night before.
All of this for the very reasonable cost of £38 (plus £5 competition fee to be paid to the TD).
Let me and the Pres know if you’re in for the Captain’s – I’m off to the sun for a week and to get my mind in the place to finally perform in the first 9 holes rather than the 2nd and 3rd nines.
