2015 Players Rep Skins Match Report

Mike makes a strong start with his match report, but then admits that he loses heart because of the Villa and his general lack of imagination. I was almost tempted not to post his report, citing my scoring, because he evidently hadn’t checked the site before launching a vicious WhatsApp attack  about how he couldn’t write a match report without knowing the scores…..

I will add some pictures to this post when I am not a ridiculous Chiltern WiFi connection.

Many thanks to Donk, as the more keen-eyed amongst you will have noted that I have nicked great swathes of this report from the WHV website.

The 2015 WHV Skins returned to Ingon Manor under the sponsorship of Pedro Power.  As usual with Pedro Power tournaments there was on arrival the Pedro Power-betting process in order to discover who would play in Pedro Power’s patented final fourball with an £5 per par 3 nearest-the-pin competition for the 3 most prolific punters & Pedro.  Needless to say I was not in the final group as the art and science of betting, on the whole baffles me – must be the strict Methodist upbringing.

Anyway, as highlighted by Donko on the marvellous WHV website, the core skins format was as per Ron’s design; which is 1 competition skin per hole won outright on Stapleforth score; plus one each for the Dog and the Shark. In a slight nod to Millers’ lunacy each fourball has its own skins match (stapleforth holes only) with a competition skin for the winner, decided on last match skin won in the event of a tie. There was also be a skin for the best overall stapleforth score, best front nine and best back nine.  Everybody also received a bonus shot to be used on any hole they fancy, which was determined prior to the match.  Finally, the standard prize pot was also generously supplemented by the  Sponsors to make each skin equal a note.  1 = £(50) per skin 2-4(20); 5-8(10); 9-16(5).   I hope you understand all that.

Before we start with the golf, a little Fashion reporting is required.  I was the only one wearing shorts.  The TD would have been proud of me.

I was in a group with Donko, Ads and Magnum and I think we all played pretty well.  That said, the C-bomb was dropped a number of times in my direction as I made some beautiful long puts or “flukes” as they were lovingly called by Ads and Donk.  I must have been playing OK, as by the end of the front nine I had recorded 2 gross birdies for the first time ever and more importantly acquired 3 skins.  The back 9 continued in much the same vein and I ended up at the end of 18 holes with 6 skins and slightly cold legs.  Even Donk on the WHV Website concedes that I played pretty well and I certainly enjoyed the golf, company and sun.  All in all it was a very good day and I wasn’t even in trouble when I got home.

Finally, after a couple of hours counting and re-counting by Pedro, Donk and the Board, the results and money prizes were announced as follows:

1st Bacon – 6 Skins.  The WHV Hip Flask, WHV 3-Skin Wallet and £30

2nd Noz – 4 Skins and £20

Tied 3rd Ron, Adam Pete & Wooly – 1 Skin and £5

The Dog was won by Noz

The Shark was won by Ron
