After being inspired by another glorious Ashes summer, I decided that we should try and establish a Player Number for all of the members who have graced the society over the years.
The board has been happy with the suggestion that members could proudly display their number on their shirts, or hats, or bags.
Unfortunately, the society was less diligent in recording activities in the days before the Donk – some evidence from before 2009 might exist in a garage in Bristol on the old cards of the former Chairman, but in the absence of these I’ve used a fair and recognised system to establish a number for players whose first appearance was in the same event.
Except for the first event, where Aust has been accorded the prestige of being member #1 as a result of organising the inaugural WHV Open, the number has been allocated on alphabetical order – Baxter before Begley, Blakemore before Kelford.
We have a couple of areas of uncertainty before you go off and buy yourself a basketball jersey with #29 on or something;
- Did Matty P play at the first event?
- Did Gaffer play at the first event?
- When did Huge first play a WHV event?
