Aust has already had some grief about this, but it was from Noz, who would moan about getting too much meat in a bacon roll, or too much cleavage at a meeting, so pinch of salt about the complaint and all that.

Well done to Aust for ticking another major off on the SLAM – WHVGolf.com is looking to deliver some exciting developments in this area during the off season – get ready to be thrilled…

Here’s the report – I don’t have the cards yet, but the points from the Handicap thingy should let me pull an OoM together before the Amy & JUG.

No pictures or anything from the PEDRO, as I understand that Tropical Storm Irene was approaching Northamptonshire at the time, so here’s a nice picture from the internets.

THE PEDRO MASTERS – 17th SEPTEMBER 2011

MATCH REPORT

The Pedro Masters was held at Hellidon Lakes Golf and Spa Hotel near Daventry. The players arrived ready for what was expected to be a hotly contested tournament. Excitement was also high with the return of Pedro Power for the first time this season.

Players were greeted by the overly helpful golf assistant at the hotel, whilst he seemed keen to tell all of the players every detail about the day, all of the players were far more interested in the story that was unfolding from Pedro about the previous nights events with our antipodean friend. Whilst the story was not particularly clear (mainly due to Pedro still appearing to be feeling the effects of the alcohol he had consumed – as Dougal’s car could testify to) it appears that a fairly normal evening out with Mr Clegg had involved 17 year old vigilantes and 6 police cars – at this stage the whereabouts of Mr Clegg was still unknown.

Lots were drawn for the betting order with Pedro Power, following which the final group was decided as Professor, the President, Noz and Aust.

The golf course itself was interesting and in good nick whilst, luckily for the eventual winner, it was also fairly short and despite its name involved very little water.

Having waited for a long while for the first green to clear none of the players proceeded to manage to actually hit the green and unfortunately after just one hole the rain appeared.

Despite the wet conditions it soon became clear that the greens were particularly tricky with some unexpectedly quick downhill puts to be found.

The longest drive was held on the 8th and was won by Pal O’ Onions (£5) despite valiant efforts from Noz and the Professor to outdo him.

With lightening closing in over the last few holes the players bravely continued (despite serious risk of death). The nearest the pin was held on the 18th and won by Pedro (£5) with a soaring iron shot.

The eventual winner was Aust (£40) with 39 points followed by The TD with 36 points (£23).

————————————–

Having now read this, I agree with Noz – it makes you miss match reports from Mike!

The inaugral Captains Matchplay took place on 31st July 2010 at Abbey Hotel Golf and Country Club. Whilst consuming bacon rolls the new format was explained to everyone by the Captain and the draw for the morning matches completed (including Noz in the cretins group).

The excitement of the long awaited matchplay tournament was only exceeded by the TD on discovering a 13 strong hen party in the bar.

Any concerns the players had over the format were soon to be expelled as the day produced some exciting and very close matches. The final match of the morning was only decided between the Pres and Aust with the final putt on the 18th green to create a playoff for first place in the afternoon between Webdonkey, Juice and Aust.

The morning Shark was won by an excited TD (£5) and the Big Dog by Juice (£5).

The exciting golf continued into the afternoon, including possibly the first eagle of the Society from Juice at the par 5 6th, and Ads managing to smash the Shark marker with a close attempt to take the prize.

After 14 holes the Aust was 8 points clear but then did his level best to gift the tournament to Webdonkey and set up a great finale. Both Webdonk and Juice went for the green in an attempt to take the title for Webdonk – unfortunately they missed on either side of the green with webdonk finding the lateral water hazard. The Aust meanwhile hooked a drive into a bunker but recovered to grab a par and take the title and £15 with Webdonk second (£10). Group 2 (Miller, Pres and Ads)was won by Miller (£5) and group 3 (Noz, TD and the Captain) by Noz (£5). The afternoon Shark was won by Noz (£5) and the Big Dog again by Juice (£5).

The newly named 2010 Brizzle Horn started bright and early with Mr Hall leaving nothing to chance by getting all players to turn up 3 hours before our tee times. Those of us trying to while away some of the time by eating in the clubhouse were made aware of the arrival of the TD by the sounding of a horn. Seconds later the TD came bounding round the corner carrying a 4 foot brass horn. This turned out to be the new trophy for the Brizzle donated by its sponsor Mr Hall – a fine addition to the growing trophy cabinet of the tour.

The additional time enabled us to take in an extended master class from the Professor which I’m sure everyone found invaluable. A range of some of the toughest shots in golf were demonstrated – all executed with perfection as always.

At 2pm the golf finally began – Noz, Aust and TD were off first in their buggy – after all 3 managed to avoid the bunker in the middle of the fairway they took off with TD’s golf bag nicely placed on the roof of the buggy.

After a relatively simple opening hole the course followed up with some tough holes – despite this both Bruce and Bacon made a promising start with 7 points in the first 3 holes. By the 6th tee Noz was left wondering if there would be any ‘normal’ holes on the course having already lost the will to live following a series of blind tee shots.

Mention needs to be made of the TD’s sand iron shot of which he was exceptionally proud on the 10th. Announcing confidently (despite his wayward efforts on the previous 9 holes) to Aust that he was about to put it to 10 feet, he proceeded to outdo himself by sticking it to 4 foot from about 110 yards.

Standing on the daunting 13th Tee the scores were fairly tight with Aust on 21 point, Bruce on 20 points, Web Donkey on 19 points and a couple of players on 18. Pedro’s wager was won hands down by Web Donkey who cleverly guessed on a low hook into the cabbage.

The final holes proved somewhat more straightforward than the rest of the course and some steady play from Aust saw him home in 35 points to take the first major of the year (and a prize of £27) with Web Donkey (£18) finishing runner up on 30 points and Bacon third. The Bigdog was won by Ron (£5) on the 15th and the Shark by Bruce (£5) on the 4th. There was just time left for the Aust to be the first recipient of The Horn from Mr Hall.
