Another one from the backlog, this time from Bruce – short and sweet as usual from the ‘winningest’ player on tour. He singularly fails to capture the drama and controversy (and lack of knowledge of the Rules of Golf) that happened at the last, and made for an interesting drive home for Donk and Pres with the OoM title seemingly unresolved until I could get a signal on my phone to prove that OoB = shot and distance as a penalty

The final day’s golf of the 2013 season was always going to be tough day as Dougal and Simon played of against each other to become the OoM 2013 champion. Could Dougal get his 2nd star or could Simon finally become champion? All that was certain was that the most consistent and successful golfer of the year couldn’t win it!
This season we have played in all types of conditions from scorching heat to driving rain but today’s treat was for gale force winds and thousands of leafs that looked exactly like golf balls, making life on the golf course very difficult indeed.
The first group consisted of Bruce, Adam, Noz and Neil. Noz spent the whole round moaning about how ill and tired he was, whilst losing the score card twice and then racking up a very good 18 points on the back 9. Both Adam and Neil had there usual mixed round of highs and lows but both should be relatively happy with how they played in these conditions. I had one of those days where things went my way, after blobbing the 1st and 3rd I managed to scrape 16 points on the front 9 and 22 on the back 9 including my first back to back birdies.
The last group of Dougal, Simon and Mike was where it really mattered. It seems that the conditions where playing a part but they managed to get to the 18th with it all still to play for, after Dougal had fought his way back into it with 8 points from the last two holes. However victory was to go to Simon, even after his tee shot found the drink he managed to sink a 12 foot putt to snatch victory away from Dougal, who had sent his 3rd shot out of bounds, and become the 2013 OoM Champion.
Congratulations Simon, a well deserved victory.
Due to it being fireworks night and Mike having to get back to host a house party there was no presentation of prizes and photos to share. Thanks goes to Noz for organising the day. It was just a shame that more members didn’t make it. Hopefully in 2014 we will see a better attendance.
