Match Report – Captains 2022

IDIOT PREVAILS FOR HIS SECOND V OF THE SEASON.

Being ushered in to the captains parking space set the tone for what was going to be a memorable day at Dreamy Manor.

With formalities done, parking negotiated, half decent bacon rolls devoured and plenty of talk about the driving range facilities, which none of used, we headed out to the first tee. About an hours walk later, we arrived. Dennis had pointed us towards this gaff, but wasn’t available to play. So we still wait for a repeat of that ludicrous opening drive from his inaugural appearance.

I played with with the strong duo of Boyce and Covidonk, which is always going to be a competitive environment. After hitting a rare decent opening drive, pitched on and two putted for a 4. Boyce found a green side bunker, splashed out and drained the putt for a less regulation par, but a par nonetheless.

This was going to be tough.

The course was good, fairly short in modern standards, great greens, not difficult walking and interesting layout. After a few holes I realised I’d kept the same ball I started with. Unusual to be fair, so the score board must be ticking along therefore. As we reached the turn, our group had decent cards going. And at times we’re playing some half decent stuff. Some pretty fortunate breaks fell my way along the route, but after a decade of shite, There must be a decent round in there eventually. There were birdies, missed tiddlers, Boyce subconsciously walking around during shots and some good competitive play. The holes around the lake were interesting, especially the tricky to negotiate blind short 4 with the slightly daft sloping green front to back , but the 15th and 16th I thought were the best holes. A short par 4 risk reward hole with a difficult green, and a stupidly tough par 3 which has trouble everywhere and a howling wind to contend with.
The 17th brought a technicality to the fore with an internal out of bounds that required a ruling post match, and a rather lacklustre 18th, which didn’t do this otherwise interesting and picturesque little track justice.

The scoring was a bit one sided at the top end as it turned out, as coupled with my first decent round in many years, I happened to be playing off about 21 ish, so creating the perfect non storm of scoring.

Idiot won with an apparent record haul of 48 points and a quite frankly, disturbing winners ring to wear. Not sure of the other scores but will update asap when available.

Some excellent recent donking by the Donkking has levelled the handicaps to something reasonable. Looking forward to a positive rest of season event diary.

Yours in Fores
